restive plaggona is the music project of the corfu-based artist dimitris doukas �also producing under matriarchy roots, leftina osha and plaggona-. after releasing a series of cassettes in different labels along 2016 and 2017 �including his own several minor promises- �leaving the body� arrives as an electronic composition of beats and synthesizer bodies disguised as a sense of provocation and mystery. each of the seven pieces offers more than a smattering of interesting textures separated by spans of great decline, but a master class of permutations in-between accompanying sounds, stretching rhythms and viscera-and- violence noises. driven by a deeply expressive narrative, restive plaggona makes a strong statement about his post-industrial vision adding technoid inclinations in a delightful dystopian world.

the voices of east harlem were an ensemble of vocalists who for just sunshine records recorded two albums under the direction of leroy hutson and curtis mayfield. �cashing in� is one of their most classic songs, a highly sought after track on original 7� fetches between £40 and £80 on the collectors market. first recorded and released in 1973 it has all the hallmarks of a leroy hutson composition and an established audience that crosses the boundaries of northern, crossover and modern soul. the song is coupled here with �take a stand�, another highly regarded and sought after modern soul room dance floor tracks, never previously released on 7� single until now

hamid s h+ (hpls) label continues to plough a furrow into the freakiest corners of the minimal scene, keeping the spirit of labels like telegraph and minibar alive with off-kilter beats, freaky sampling and wayward synth work from lesser known operators. g76 is up on the a side with the wonky wonders of -father-, packing some seriously squelchy monosynth bass and plenty of beat trickery to wriggle under the skin of the most deviant dancers. h+dk (hamid and denis kaznacheev) tackle the b-side with -tachtagol connection-, keeping the drums as slender as possible and using a sweet but subtle pad as the focus of the track. it s a simple approach, but utterly effective.

danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen�s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum�s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven�s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

hot on the heels of inre rydmen, the ep that the swedish multi-instrumentalist group tommy awards released via origin peoples in mid-june, come the remixes. drafting in a cohort of the very best, this impending release will see the likes of jonny nash, coyote and mystic jungle tribe jump on the remix duties, touching original productions with their unmistakable idiosyncrasies. bartosz kruczynski, the polish producer better known under his earth trax guise, is another name credited on the release, offering up a 15-minute epic as he reinterprets penultimate track, hans logan. also to see an appearance on this ep is the romanian eirwud mudwasser, offering up a rendition of the track �mike sierra foxtrot� reworked in a similar esoteric expanse, albeit it quite a bit more lucid. oscillating electronics mesmerise and an arpeggiating synth melody gradually make way for marimbas. sweeping, elongated strums of guitar stretch out like the horizon and the dialogue between various melodic elements continues throughout as we bear witness to various transformations. irregardless of pacing, the meditative quality remaining consistent throughout each glorious edit.

science fiction shifted from their early deep territories of house to the current broken beats of electro, keeping the characteristic classic analogue warmth. this ep is made by various artists, and it comes under the signature of an obsessive majestic presence of the 808 beat, that sounds like an accidental tribute to the creator of this drum machine, founder of roland corporation, that has died on april the 1st as a fool that changed the way to make music since early 80es. tracks are mostly sustained, from synched sequences of hinode to the final atmospheric obscure modular landscapes of exterminador, chromed by ngly distortions in track 02. dj nephil on the b side introduces a solid visionary chicagesque mellow atmosphere.

elliot adamson knows how good he is, which is equally as daunting as it is impressive. i�ve known him since he was the eager beaver barman at a place i�d play regularly in my hometown, who used to try and stick his demos under my nose, and now he seems poised for world domination with a who s who of the worlds biggest djs singing his praises. i�m so pleased i listened to those demos when i did. elliot has a startling breadth and depth of taste for someone of such tender years (although to be honest, people only mention other peoples youth when they feel like they�re getting old themselves). the ep elliot has provided for me me me covers a range of vibes which can be traced through mid 90s house, millennial techno and that current and contemporary feel that we�re all still struggling to name adequately. elliot is a real talent and i couldn�t be happier to provide a platform for what i feel is his most esoteric work to date, and a worthy showcase of his real capabilities.

n.o.i.a. records is proud to announce the arrival of an eight track album from italian pair tengrams entitled outerspace blues. tengrams are brothers alessandro and davide piatto, who collectively have a deep and long understanding of dance music. davide runs the n.o.i.a. label and was one of italy s first touring electronic live acts, performing and recording with drum machines and synthesizers as early as 1978 as part of seminal italo outfit klein + m.b.o. since then they have released under an array of aliases, have clocked up numerous club hits and this new project brings them right back to their electronic roots.

the broken glass is a work conceived and produced between austria and spain and represents the eleventh reference of the catalogue of stoerung label. in this collaboration field recordings and synthesis processed by asferico create cyclical and hypnotic structures, which mia zabelka furnishes with her violin and voice. the lp version consists of two versions of the piece, the first more minimalist and conceptual and the second more rhythmical and synthesizer based. through a display of distorted and isolated sounds, we are driven in the first version into an deep listening, as if sounds where placed under a microscope or we were contemplating them through a telescope. this approach lets us perceive the bare physicality of sounds in a way which enables us to grasp subtleties and aspects of sound which we are not used to. the second version continues where the first version left us, but in this piece, we are eventually flooded by hypnotic loops, white noise and synthesis and the experience has a different flavor. now what we have acquired through the first version, the enhancement of our listening and appreciation of subtleties of sounds, is inserted into a rhythmical structure which acts as a strong current, pulling us inside an ocean full of astonishing sounds.

2021 repress!!! x-ray records catalogue is as under the radar as it is rich and ahead of its time. releasing between 1992 and 1994, most of the label s outputs were produced by raymond castoldi. although people primarily know castoldi for being the music director and organist in madison square garden, he also has a lesser known chapter of his life. in the early 1990s, raymond released 6 eps on his imprint x-ray records. by coupling his musical education with a four-on-the-floor club pattern, castoldi managed to create a jazzy vibe with spaceous sounds and keyboard jams, all coalescing into a relaxing atmosphere that would eventually become the signature sound of 90 s deep house. in partnership with castoldi, kalahari oyster cult delivers the goods once again: 11 tracks from the x-ray catalogue over a 3lp for your deejaying pleasure.

kuniyuki takahashi (often best known simply as kuni or kuniyuki) is a japanese dj and music producer, sound engineer from sapporo, hokkaido, japan. he records under many different aliases depending on the style of music he is producing, including forth (dub techno/acid house), frr hive (downtempo/drum n bass), koss (for techno). he was also a joint member of the group drp (deutsches reichs patent) along with other member tomoyuki murashige.

the jungle brothers� 1988 debut, straight out the jungle, was important for many reasons. it was sloppy and goofy but had moments of real focus and social consciousness. it was a true �kitchen sink� record, that caught a rap fanbase enraptured by eric b. & rakim, public enemy and boogie down productions a bit off-guard. also of note, beyond the excellence of the album itself, the jungle brothers were the fulcrum for what would become the native tongues movement � they came first, de la soul and a tribe called quest followed, under their guidance.

the second release from producer eomac�s new dublin-based label eotrax comes from nomadic irish producer lair. this is an exciting step for the label, moving away from the dancefloor into more diverse, eclectic territory. lair is a producer far from the norm, especially for those releasing on an electronic music label. she classifies herself as a composer, producer, vocalist, artist, sound-healer and yoga teacher. with a diverse background that includes singing classical and traditional material shes expanded her artistic approach into a diverse web-like multi-disciplinarian approach in keeping with her nomadic life. currently she creates electronic music, contemporary classical music and healing music under a variety of alias including laura kilty and luminousounds (for healing music). she is also in the duo noeverything with eomac. in her words my lair music is how i see the world - this one and others channeled - expressed through layers of my vocals which i shape electronically. the music has elements of mysticism, sacred geometry, energy, sound with intention and just sounds i love formed to make music i love. i see music as i create it. i work with lots of layers - for me its like creating an aural representation of the image i see. these layers of sound can be found in her debut self-titled ep in the deep, ritualistic drones of invoke and meld on the a-side, and the more concise rhythmical patterns of searching in circles on the flip.

sharif laffrey is one of the great unsung heroes of detroit s dance music scene, having been instrumental in putting on parties in the motor city for many years and spinning records in all kinds of legendary spots. when he s not busy promoting, laffrey also finds time to turn out productions under aliases such as quadrant and maersk. primarily though, his recent work has been under his own name for the likes of love on the rocks and discos capablanca, who he returns to here with a single sided sure shot entitled always. it s a heated, jacking club track that screams of laffrey s detroit roots, with an early house thrust and wild 80s-style sampling that will set the party alight.

with releases from lerosa, andy mac and piezo already under our belts, idle hands strides towards the summer with a transmission from a kindred spirit across the pond. area, sometimes known as m50, has been flying the flag for forward thinking electronic music in chicago for a long time. his radio shows on wnur have a distinctive quality one step to the side of the music his hometown is best known for, while his label kimochi sound has released incredible music from the likes of benjamin brunn, strategy and many more besides. as a producer area has been equally prolific since first emerging in 2007. from ethereal sound and steadfast to untilmyheartstops and sequencias, his various approaches to rhythm and texture are all bound together by a meditative quality that feels like a perfect fit for idle. on this single, both sides of the 12- continue the theme of dusty, dusky 4/4 area is most widely known for, locking on to a house groove while sporting the abstract atmosphere of techno. -rlgl- is an understated, emotional heater that uses looped up fragments as a counterpoint to the more lilting strings and static that bed the track. notice takes a more overtly melancholic approach with its lingering, heavily processed keys that drift in between a tough set of drums. theres a punch to the track that will translate beautifully to a big system, even as the melodics spell out a more intimate listening experience.

looky looky is the new project from jeffrey sfire and ian clark, both residing in detroit, michigan. the pair met in the late 90s when ian was performing as one half of le car with adam miller of adult. ian also recorded under the moniker perspects, and released on clone, ersatz audio and interdimensional transmissions. jeffrey has released a series of singles and remix eps with samuel long as sfire on cocktail d amore music and ultramajic.

intergalactic, retro-futurist broken beat-ish track by legendary drum&bass producer seba teaming up with o persson under the east bound moniker. daniel savio follows with a laid-back spacey synth journey, spiced with a 70ies sci-fi flavor, yet with a modern approach. the b-side meanwhile takes off with a dark, yet progressive techno groover by young talent bonaca, ending with daniel araya s analogue-rich bomb, with a body-music type of vibe. operating under the radar, but romb records have so far been pushing an immensely diverse, yet cohesive soundscape of quality underground electronic music. the thirteenth release is no different, neatly summing up the label s genre-defying philosophy, presenting a four track collage of electronic mastery. that s how you do it!

dark entries present -a tape-, a double lpof early work by helena hauff, a dj and record producer based in hamburg, germany. at university she studied fine art, physics, and systematic music science. she previously was a resident at hamburg s golden pudel club, where she hosted a night called birds and other instruments. as a selector she weaves energetically between electro, new wave, and ebm. her music, often recorded live in one take, has a raw intensity to it. she debuted with an ep on werkdiscs back in 2013 followed by records for lux_rec and bunker sublabel panzerkreuz as well as two collaborative eps for pan, produced under the name black sites with fellow pudel resident f#x. �a tape� is a compilation of helena�s earliest recordings from 2011 and 2014, originally released on limited cassette by handmade birds in 2015. clocking in at over 50 minutes, this collection spans hauff�s musical universe, from jacking acid-techno to krautish zone-outs and scuzzy feedback interludes. it�s tempting to consider it helena�s debut album, but she views these tracks as mostly forgotten sketches left on the cutting room floor. it a gripping collection of deep, sinister analog synth sequences, industrial dissonance, and heavy percussion. her equipment set up was a roland alpha juno 2, juno 60, tb-303, tr-707 and tr-808. both of the discs end with hauff stepping outside of the intentionally stiff, robotic rhythms, instead showing her skill at crafting less conventional electronic sounds. all songs have been mastered by james plotkin with vinyl eq and lacquer cut by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the record is housed in a custom made jacket designed by eloise leigh, featuring a checkered graphic and black lines, highlighted by yellow and green for maximum visual tension. each copy includes a double-sided postcard with notes.
